This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”
This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the character of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
