Ten individuals sentenced of cyber-bullying against Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has convicted ten people for engaging in the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the partner of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.

The those on trial faced accusations of disseminating untruths regarding her sex and sexual orientation, in addition to making defamatory statements about the pair's 24-year age gap.

The court delivered conditional custodial sentences of a maximum of eight months to the defendants. The detailed judgment has not yet been published.

A persistent false narrative suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has spread widely since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.

This latest legal outcome in France coincides with the Macrons pursuing a libel case in the United States against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted similar conspiracy theories about the first lady's gender.

Their complaint states that Owens brushed aside any factual proof that refuted her assertions opting to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.

Owens has regularly repeated these assertions on her digital program and social media channels, and in March 2024 declared that she would bet her whole career on her belief that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.

Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her current spouse when she was a teacher at his high school.

The two married in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was 54.
