Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
