Iran Claims Attack on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Regional Military Operations.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area in the area of the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is not yet known and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Airspace Engagements
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - stated they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was striking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on the Islamic Republic carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.
Additional Developments
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," it added.
Officials reported missile fragments fell on a residential area in the capital, causing some material damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
