The EU might “act quickly and firmly” against what it deems “unwarranted” travel bans imposed by the US on five European individuals working on combating online hate and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.
European Leaders Condemn US Action as ‘Intimidation’
European leaders including the French president charged the US administration of “bullying and threats”, following the travel bans were placed on individuals who have been at the heart of efforts to introduce laws governing American tech companies.
“For too long, European activists have led organised efforts to coerce American platforms to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” stated a senior US official online. “The current administration will not stand for these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”

Germany, Spain, the UK and a chorus of EU officials joined France in criticizing the move.
The bans were enacted on Tuesday on an ex-European commissioner who helped draft the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA), along with four anti-disinformation campaigners, including two in Germany and two in the UK.
